Facial wrinkles form over time as the result of muscle activity. During treatment, Botox or Xeomin is administered directly into the tiny facial muscles that cause these lines and wrinkles to form. Once there, it blocks nerve impulses to the muscles, causing them, and the overlying skin, to relax. All it takes is a few minutes of your time and a few small injections. Within days, you can have noticeable improvement lasting four months or longer.
Pre-Treatment Consultation
During your consultation, we will evaluate your medical history, establish your expectations, and confirm that you are a candidate for Botox or Xeomin injections. We'll determine the best areas to treat, discuss the risks and benefits of the procedure, and answer any questions or concerns you may have.
The Botox/Xeomin Procedure
We use a tiny needle to gently inject Botox or Xeomin directly into the muscles that cause the lines and wrinkles on your skin. While some patients report a minor pinch or sting, the injections are easily tolerated. The treatment itself only takes a few moments and you can literally be in and out of the office in five minutes, with no downtime. You will likely notice results within 2-3 days, and these changes can last four months or longer. Research has suggested that long-term use may lead to a longer duration of each treatment's effect.
It is important to realize that the beneficial cosmetic effects are not permanent, and that two or more treatments per year may be needed to maintain desired results. Also, Botox and Xeomin are used to treat lines and wrinkles on the face, and cannot be used to repair sagging skin. As with all treatments, results may vary from one individual to the next. In some cases, a dose adjustment may be needed 10-14 days after the initial treatment.
Past-Treatment Information
You may notice slightly reddened, raised areas immediately after the injections. These are normal, and fade away within minutes. You can resume your normal activities right away. We do recommend that you remain upright and refrain from massaging the area for 3-4 hours after your treatment. It may take 2-3 days to start noticing the Botox/Xeomin effect, and a dosing adjustment "touch-up" is sometimes needed 10-14 days after your initial treatment.
